As the first person many visitors, members, prospective members, and others encounter when they call or visit Beth Israel Center, our Administrative Assistant plays a critical role in establishing the warm and welcoming character of our congregation.
This opportunity requires strong administrative, organizational, communication, computer and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will enjoy supporting the work of our professional team and volunteers (i.e., members of the congregation). In addition, the ability to screen, prioritize, track and complete multiple ongoing projects in various stages of progress is essential. This position will benefit from knowledge of Jewish traditions and practice, although an interest in learning about Judaism would more than suffice. Working knowledge of Google and Microsoft products (Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, etc.) is critical.
Primary duties include:
Answer the phone and greet visitors
Process payments and donations
Manage the Rabbi’s calendar
Maintain order in the office and throughout the synagogue
Produce simple signs, fliers, brochures, booklets and mailings
Update website content
Handle mail, including quarterly bulk mailings
Additional clerical duties such as photocopying, correspondence, filing, and ordering supplies round out this important position.
Our new Administrative Assistant will work 30 hours over five days, Monday through Friday, most weeks. Jewish Holy Days are not regular work days, although arrangements may be made as needs arise and schedules allow.
The position reports to the Executive Director.
Salary: $28,000-$32,000/year, for a 30-hour work week, based on qualifications and experience.
