Women's League

The Women's League at Beth Israel Center (formerly known as the Beth Israel Sisterhood) is an affiliate of Women's League for Conservative Judaism which was founded in 1918 by Mathilda Shechter. Women's League for Conservative Judaism provides services to over 700 affiliated local Women's Leagues and Sisterhoods in conservative synagogues in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Israel and Great Britain, with a total membership of 150,000. It is dedicated to the perpetuation of Judaism in the home, synagogue and community. Women's League is an integral arm of the Worldwide Conservative/Masorti movement, maintaining close ties to the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and its campuses, the University of Judaism, and all other programs of the movement.

At Beth Israel, the Women's League is a group of service-oriented women committed to enriching our congregational life. Our members support Beth Israel Center's Talmud/Torah and youth groups, provide child-care on Shabbat, contribute to the library, assist with holiday celebrations, present meaningful gifts to each new baby, Bat- and Bar- Mitzvah students, and graduates. In the coming year, we hope to continue to add to the refurbishing of the Bimah and the Ark. We make contributions to groups in our community, such as Jewish Social Services, neighborhood houses, and abuse centers. Our membership supports the Jewish Theological Seminary and sends Torah fund cards to commemorate Simchot and bereavements. Women's League maintains a well-stocked Judaica shop.
