About Us

Beth Israel Center is a Conservative synagogue in Madison, Wisconsin. The synagogue was founded in 1949 and has a membership of nearly 300 families. Our congregation is participatory, egalitarian, informal, and well-educated about Judiasm and Jewish subjects. We are socially and politically active, and involved in the community at large. You will find activities for all ages at Beth Israel.

We have a wonderful education program for young and old. Our Talmud Torah educates around 100 children a year from Gan (Kindergarten) through Zayin (7th grade). Education for older children continues in the community-wide (sponsored by the Madison Jewish Community Center) Midrasha program.

Classes provided at Beth Israel for adult members include: Basic Hebrew, Study of the weekly Torah portion, Introduction to the Talmud, and a Torah trope class in preparation to becoming a Torah reader. A conversion class is conducted by the Rabbi.

Our facilities include a wonderful library (that includes a huge collection of videos) and Judaica Shop with a wide variety of Judaica.

Beth Israel maintains a kosher mikveh (ritual bath) available to all members of the Jewish Community.

We also have a Bikur Cholim (Visiting the Sick) volunteer group for the hospital- and home-bound.

The community-wide Chevra Kadisha provides for funeral arrangements and its attendant rituals.

Beth Israel's kosher kitchen is available to its certified kosher caterers for both meat and dairy meals.
